I just had the same problem!
I had it running w/o issues
so am I! it was driving me nuts.
is this worth a bug report of some kind? perhaps have Squeezeplay try
other interfaces if it doesn't find a server, or at least give some kind
of message? rather than fail silently?
Glad you got to the bottom of this!

OK, mystery solved!
Basically, I used tcpdump at the server and discovered that discovery
requests were not arriving. The command is:
>tcpdump -i eth0 -n port 3483
I unplugged all squeeze devices from the network and then ran this
command in a shell at the server. You can clearly see the
thanks all for the suggestions.
1. did the full reboot thing, no change. The squeezeplay doesn't find
the server, and the server doesn't list squeezeplay.

Sorry I'm late to this party... Have you looked in the WebUI to see if
your Squeezeplay shows there? I've had the issue where Squeezeplay won't
connect just like you say, but I could still play music on it by using
the WebUI or any other controller, like a Duet controller or one of the

thanks.
That's interesting. Now it doesn't find my server at all ...
How does a new device discover the server? is there some kind of
handshake on a special port or something?

Thanks. I did the firewall thing as you suggest, still the same thing.
Anyway, if I switch off the firewall, no change so I don't think that is
the issue.
I installed on my daughter's win 10 laptop, everything worked fine right
off the bat. I notice that it first offered me a choice to select

Full logging is on by default, but it's mostly useless for
troubleshooting connectivity issues.
The log files are at
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp\{stdout-SqueezePlay.txt,stderr-Squeezeplay.txt}

I'd suggest deleting the jive rule and creating a new rule
can squeezeplay itself be persuaded to do some logging?

Thanks for the replies.
I still have the same issue. The firewall is there (it is listed as
"jive"). There were a few old rules for softqueeze which I have had in
the past, but uninstalled a long time back.
Could Malwarebytes be blocking it somehow?
Can I use log files at the server to try
If you have the windows 7 firewall enabled, you need to add an exception
for squeezeplay.exe on all networks including public.

Perhaps not ideal but I have Squeezeplay running on WINE under Ubuntu.
No issues with it

no, 7.8 squeezeplay will work with 7.x LMS. not sure why you're having
the problem. Should just work: install Squeezeplay, open SP, select "my
music" in menu, then when asked, select
does the LMC have to be 7.8.0 for the 7.8.0 Squeezeplay? is there not
