I just had the same problem!
I had it running w/o issues for the longest time, but after reinstalling
windows et al on my PC, it would not connect...
Thanks for this thread - I disabled VM's vitual network in device
manager, started Squeezeplay walked through the setup and it runs - even
after restarting when VM Network is enabled again.

Thanks again!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Getting Squeezeplay working on Win 7

2016-12-04 Thread danmcb

OK, mystery solved!

Basically, I used tcpdump at the server and discovered that discovery
requests were not arriving. The command is:

>tcpdump -i eth0 -n port 3483

I unplugged all squeeze devices from the network and then ran this
command in a shell at the server. You can clearly see the req/ack
packets happen when a device is plugged in. (Aside : oddly, one of the
two controllers of the two Duets chats back and fore with the server
regularly - the other doesn't. No idea why.)

But when I did the same with my laptop and squeezeplay - I found nothing
was getting there.

I used to use VMWare on this laptop, and because of that there were
various virtual interfaces defined. I wondered if these were confusing
Squeezeplay, so I uninstalled VMWare (as I don't use it). bingo, it
started working just fine. I guess Squeezeplay auto-selected the wrong
interface. So anyone with more than one interface might have an issue, I
would guess.

(By the way - it took me a while to discover that the old slimp3 UDP
protocol is not used anymore. Perhaps someone should mark it OBSOLETE in
the wiki in big red letters and link to
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SlimProtoTCPProtocol ?
Wireshark/tshark have a definition for this protocol, not the current
one, also - tends to make you think it is current ;-) )

thanks for the help all!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Getting Squeezeplay working on Win 7

2016-12-04 Thread danmcb

thanks all for the suggestions.

1. did the full reboot thing, no change. The squeezeplay doesn't find
the server, and the server doesn't list squeezeplay.

2. I notice one odd thing - the other devices, Duets and the Boom - if
I don't use them for a day or so, I have to power cycle them for them to
be listed at the server. This seems to be a bit worse recently - before
this only needed to be done once in a while.

I am investigating ...

Sorry I'm late to this party... Have you looked in the WebUI to see if
your Squeezeplay shows there? I've had the issue where Squeezeplay won't
connect just like you say, but I could still play music on it by using
the WebUI or any other controller, like a Duet controller or one of the
Android or iThing controllers. I've never got a resolution why I
couldn't connect from the SqueezePlay interface.

have you tried a system reboot yet. Turn off/unplug all players. Turn
off computer running LMS. Turn off/unplug router and modem. Restart
modem and router, let fully start. then restart computer running LMS
and let LMS fully start. Then plugin/turn on squeezebox players,
including starting Squeezeplay on the win7 machine. And in Squeezeplay,
choose "my music" from menu and it should offer up the LMS that is
running as an option.

That's really puzzling. The laptop is on the exact same wifi network as
the Boom, the two Duets, and the other laptop which have all been fine.

The only thing I can thing of is that the packet is not being broadcast
for some reason. But what? I have tried with firewall switched off.

Players discover servers by broadcasting a specific data packet on the
network and waiting for the server to reply. If your server was turned
off for too long or the network connection between the player and the
server was severed for too long, the player may give up trying to find a
server.

The squeezeplay settings files are located in
%USERPROFILE%AppData\Roaming\SqueezePlay

Ensure squeezeplay is not running and delete the SqueezePlay folder.

Full logging is on by default, but it's mostly useless for

The log files are at

Thanks for the replies.

I still have the same issue. The firewall is there (it is listed as
"jive"). There were a few old rules for softqueeze which I have had in
the past, but uninstalled a long time back.

Could Malwarebytes be blocking it somehow?

Can I use log files at the server to try to find the problem? It seems
that there is no reason for this not to work. It's a fairly standard
system. So what gives? I am pretty proficient technically, if someone
can tell me what to check, where to start looking, I will dig. The fact
that softsqueeze discovers my server already says something, right?
presumably at that point it tries to connect and here is the problem.
What kind of connection does it make? what port? I can dig out wireshark
and see what is happening.

no, 7.8 squeezeplay will work with 7.x LMS. not sure why you're having
