Don't know precisely where the problem lies but i've tried the
same on a Linux and a Solaris box and it works no problems:
[pa...@linone ~]$ tar xfz pmacct-0.12.0rc2.tar.gz
[pa...@linone ~]$ cd pmacct-0.12.0rc2
[pa...@linone pmacct-0.12.0rc2]$ ./configure --build=i586-alt-linux
