Re: Freeswitch
I would suggest trying to get upstream to accept any changes you made to the build system to get it to build on OpenBSD, but as for adding it to ports, this is pretty insane. Between their dependency handling and lack of release tarballs (fetch the code from git, yawn) their infrastructure is really hostile to 3rd-party packagers. We have versions of a lot of the dependencies *with patches to make them work properly on OpenBSD*, it would be really stupid to have to duplicate all this work. I could understand this for a handful of specialist libs, but really, they do this for everything: apr, apr-util, curl, ldns, libedit, pcre, portaudio, spandsp, speex, tiff, ... I do sort-of understand why they do this, but it's not at all helpful for packagers, and almost every other large project manages to do this reasonably well... On 2011-11-26, Ted Bullock tbull...@comlore.com wrote: Hi Folks, So our company recently merged with a small telecom which has been using pre-packaged versions of trixbox running on top of centos to operate for the last while. However I am not happy with the reliability they have seen, as well the security situation is rather poor. Anyway, I spent my afternoon banging my head against freeswitch's build system making it build on OpenBSD 5.0 and I have produced some working binaries. That said, the upstream installation process sucks, and looking in seems really dumb (they have made a shwack of shallow forks of most of their dependencies and pulled them all into their tree). I don't really have any visibility on how deep some of those forks go, but they are including really disparate stuff like sqlite and libtiff. Anyway, I'm willing to contribute paid developer time towards building a freeswitch port and would be more than a little interested in what else has been done towards this. Not much has appeared on marc.info so I thought I'd ask.

2011/11/28 Stuart Henderson s...@spacehopper.org: In most of your submissions, you do not say if you have tested any of the dependencies. Actually I did not test all of the dependencies but some of it. The dependencies you listed all run_depends on py-lxml so it is difficult to test if the port has no regress test. NEW: openmodeller
Hi ports@, can someone please review this port for some feedback? DESCR: openModeller aims to provide a flexible, user friendly, cross-platform environment where the entire process of conducting a fundamental niche modeling experiment can be carried out. The software includes facilities for reading species occurrence and environmental data, selection of environmental layers on which the model should be based, creating a fundamental niche model and projecting the model into an environmental scenario. A number of algorithms are provided as plugins, including GARP, Climate Space Model, Bioclimatic Envelopes, Support Vector Machines and others. I work at CRIA, one of the institutions behind openModeller, and it would be nice if this port could be imported into OpenBSD ports tree. As a note, these patches were fixed in the development version, so no patches will be needed in the next release. Thank you. openmodeller.tar.gz Description: application/tar-gz

Some comments: I think you should set SHARED_ONLY=Yes and merge PFRAG.shared into PLIST. You can remove CONFIGURE_STYLE=cmake cause it's superfluous You can remove all the cmake modules that conflict with system ones, as there's no way (at least I don't know a sane one) to give precedence to system modules over local ones. As sebastiap@ correctly pointed out, lcdvc.rc should be blasted. lcdvc is not supported on OpenBSD. Also /var/run is blasted upon boot, so I will have to figure an alternative way to store away a pid file. Here is the deal. LCDd(8) is capable of dropping privs from root and thus could write to /var/run if it wanted to. As it happens, LCDd does not use a PID file. Presumably LCDd needs access to devices which require root privs and this is done pre-priv-drop. lcdproc(1) and lcdexec(1) don't drop privs, probably because really they are clients; they do however write PID files, by default to /var/run. Non-root/wheel can not write to /var/run; however, if you run these programs as root, they will not drop privs and stay as root, which is bad for us. Kinda silly design choice, some might say. But anyway, what I have opted to do: 1) Have lcdproc and lcdexec write to an _lcdproc owned /var/lcdproc. 2) daemon_user=_lcdproc, for lcdproc(1) and lcdexec(1). 3) LCDd(8) howver, runs as root and drops to _lcdproc via it's own means. I had to test this using the curses/text drivers because the machine with the physical LCD setup has a busted disk. We know the hd44780 driver works; moving PIDS about should not break this. sebastia@ tried using the crystalfontz driver, but was thwarted due to bad hardware. Attached looks good? MaraDNS v2.0
Hi, I noticed that the package for MaraDNS is for the older v1.3.07 instead of the current v2.0.04. I went to compile v2.0.04 from the upstream source on 5.0-stable, but it failed. Experimenting a bit, I found that (for some reason), inserting an #include stdio.h in two places fixes the problem (see attached patch). After two days of testing, it seems to work like a charm. I'd be happy to help test and/or maintain this package. How can I help in updating it?
