xfce terminal dumps core on EOF

XFCE Terminal dumps core if closed with ctrl-d and takes down all instances with it. The interesting thing is, although the ksh(1) processes die, the users remain logged on and can be seen in the output of w(1). Can you at least tell me how to log off those users? Send instant messages to
