Re: [postgis-users] Purge of old released notes

2023-09-27 Thread Arthur Bazin via postgis-users
Sorry, I wasn't really clear in my question.

The News file contains every changes that have been commit and other
important information, this is an amazing place to find informations on
changes that have been made.

I was talking about the release_note.xml file in the /doc directory :
https://git.osgeo.org/gitea/postgis/postgis/src/branch/master/doc/release_notes.xml
This one contained more or less the same things as the news file but in an
xml/docbook format which is very conveniant for searching into.
This file have been truncated during this commit :
https://git.osgeo.org/gitea/postgis/postgis/commit/78a4dd2fb38eb3e7be55d850a4302658ff3ccad8

But maybe I haven't correctly understand what this file contains and it is
not the same as the news file.

With this context, my question is : is it planned to keep a xml formated
version of the complete news file ? :-)
If not nervemind but I find this file really common to parse instead of
parsing each release and keeping the informations.

Thank you very much

Arthur Bazin

Re: [postgis-users] Purge of old released notes

2023-09-27 Thread Regina Obe via postgis-users
Are you talking about changelog or NEWS?

The changelog was just a rehash of the git log.

If you badly wanted to look at all the history, you can generate one yourself
or just search thru the commit log here:

https://git.osgeo.org/gitea/postgis/postgis/commits/branch/master

The NEWS file we discussed purging too, but we’ve only purged it from the
release notes docs. It’s still part of the NEWS

https://git.osgeo.org/gitea/postgis/postgis/src/branch/master/NEWS

You could look for an older package in the debian stable distro for example and
extract the relevant changelog file.

[postgis-users] Purge of old released notes

2023-09-27 Thread Arthur Bazin via postgis-users
Hi !

I was wondering why the old released notes have been removed from the
changelog ?
I often use this document to find when changes happenned.

I understand that it can be really heavy by the time but is it possible to
find the old changelogs in other files ? maybe one file by version ?
Is it something that you want to do ?

Thank you for your answer.
