How about the following situations?
Scenario 1
2 lines zigzagging over the space. Some time, a line crosses over another
and then crosses again to return. Can DE-9IM tell with a pattern?
Scenario 2.
2 lines zigzagging over the space. Some time, they meet and touch each
other, but never cross
You haven't specified what you mean by "gap". The DE-9IM model is a
"global" model, in that it considers the input geometries as a whole. You
can use the DE-9IM to determine if two geometries have a "gap" between them
via ST_Disjoint.
