You can see properties files in l10n/locale/lang/map_features.properties

You need to add flash parameter such as args[assets] = locales/ja_JP.zip
 to get localized version.

It is based on developers comment last year.

I've proposed that direct translation of XML files and selectable load feature.
The comment is that we can use asset loading mechanism.

This proposal is that adding feature to generate assset.
- generate localized xml from properties file and original XML file.
- packed to ZIP file for asset loading in initialize phase
- provide template properties file for tranlators
- PoC asset in Japanese

It is also generate files for each languages that indicate untranslated part of
map_features/*xml files.
It helps translators to determine what feature should be translate when updated
a potlatch2 code.

I've also asked to pull it.
 https://github.com/systemed/potlatch2/pull/86

 i18n: introduce MapFeturesConverter

It introduce java utility to generate localized *.xml from
 map_features/*xml and properties

 i18n: map_features.properties, id attribute

The utility use id attribute to find replacing block.

Do you have any comment? Be happy with localization, isn't it?
I test my patch against recent branch and it is happily applied w/out any error.

You may be able to see Japanese localized potlatch2 w/ this resource in:
http://www.osm.jp/potlatch2/osmjp.html

#warn: Here is a test site that connect dev server.

A localization files are java style properties, so it is good for translation
site
such as translatewiki

To adopt to OSM Japan site, I started translation project at
https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/potlatch2/

This is happening to me now too (on the Mac, in both Safari and P2). Bit
bemused as to why - nothing has changed in the P2 code that should cause
it AFAIAA. Will look it into it, though probably not until next week as
I'm on deadline with the day job.

As far as I remember, it's been doing this for months for me. Maybe as
long as the whole time I've had the mac - about 6 months. I don't have
any dev tools on the mac though, so a bit hard to investigate.

Incidentally, just to be clear, the only [object Object] I see is in
the GPS data dropdown, so it could be a race condition or something in
how that gets populated. The Chrome Flash player on Mac seems flakey
to me in general.

Any feedback from anyone? I'd love to hear from people who

 b) i18n was working 2 months ago and isn't working now
 c) i18n was not working 2 months ago but is working now
 d) i18n was not working 2 months ago and still isn't working now

The biggest problem is that I'm in group a) so it's hard for me to
debug. b) would worry me, c) is ideal and d) would be unfortunate but
 certainly worth knowing.

e) I don't know if i18n used to work on my Mac, but it's not working

My main computer is an XP desktop, but I use a Macbook Pro for work,
and sometimes do a bit of OSM on it, using Chrome. Another issue I've
noticed (possibly a quirk of Flash on mac) is my system-wide keyboard
settings (I use Dvorak) aren't respected in the main editor. So
pressing say d (physically the h) key is interpreted by Potlatch
as an H. More annoying for punctuation. Actually typing in edit boxes
is fine.

I believe that this topic should be approached early. It does not only
concern the texts within P2, but also those used in presets. While creating
my own spezialized set of presets and style, I noted that some parts are
currently not easily translated as texts are both used as keys for
references and shown to the user directly. Getting I18N there will likely
require a structural change in the presets, so it should best be solved
before we have too many presets that would need to be changed.

Looking in I18N for it is fairly high on my to do list - it shouldn't be
hard to do as Flex has I18N support built in.

That was for messages builtin to Potlatch though - I hadn't looked at
the question of the presets, which come from an external XML file. I do
have some plans that I'm working on which may help with that though.

Are they? I thought all internal references to Category elements were
shown using the Category name rather than id. If you can give me
an example I can look at fixing this.
