There were 17 responses. The results are as follows
17 responded that they do not use tamper seals on RP field instruments
Good feedback on application of standards and why seals are not required
were received.
I have a question regarding tamper resistant seals for calibration on RP
meters. A QA audit made a SFR (supplier finding report) at an instrument
calibration facility stating vendor should be placing these seals on our RP
meters.
The cited standard is ANSI Z540:1994 Section 11.5, but after
Trojan had to do some manual welding but I can't remember the details, that
was about 18 years ago! I believe we used some local shielding for manual
grinding and touch up welding.

The selection of even lower levels of clean up standards for each site/state is
another example of how the linear threshold/ALARA concept results in
unnecessary cost to the public and risk from moving large quantities of low
