[NF] VPN

Hi foxgang I have a need to get into a server with a cisco VPN box on it. I can't really warrant getting a VPN box myself as they are expensive but I need to make contact with the server to update it. Before I used the windows remote desktop connection but that wont work. What do I need to do here

Hi Al, Yes, you will need to get a hold of the appropriate Cisco client. I don't know off the top of my head if this is something you can download from Cisco directly. You may need to obtain the client software from whoever hosts the network this server is on. Once you make a VPN connection,

I ran into a similar situation re: a Cisco VPN Client clipped me from being able to access the Internet while the VPN client was active. There was a setting I was able to alter that stopped that from happening, but lordy if I can recall what it was after so many years. One thing you could do if

Ok at least I have an idea what to expect. I think I may hit a problem as the machine that needs access is my server. On it is a web service that needs to access a web service on the distant server. So VPN cutting off the internet is most defiantly not a choice. I have a feeling VPC won't solve

It is simply a routing issue. I've seen VPN clients change the default route (0.0.0.0) from your router to the VPN, which routes all internet traffic through the vpn. All you need to do is delete that route and re-add your normal default route. Seems to me that is what I ended up doing.
