Manila: The influential Catholic Church has banned brides from wearing backless and spaghetti-strapped wedding gowns. The new dress code is not meant to stifle fashion but create an atmosphere of propriety, modesty and the upholding of a Christian tradition, said several priests during the holding of Liturgy Week which was sponsored by the Benedictine monks. "The sacred character of the liturgy of marriage requires corresponding modesty in the attire of the bride and the bridal entourage," said Fr. Anscar Chupungco, San Beda College rector and coordinator for the Liturgy Week. Chupungco accused some designers of "exposing" brides with their creations, adding that couturiers have influenced "people to forget about wearing appropriate clothes in Church". When asked to be more categorical on the Church's imposed dress code, Chupungco said: "It would be terrible for priests to decide on the specifications, say, on how long a gown should be. We leave it to the couple's sense of the sacred, of the profane, and their common sense and propriety [in choosing the design of their attire]." "Simply put, if it can't be worn at Sunday Mass, it can't be worn at a wedding," said Chupungco. http://www.gulfnews.com/world/Philippines/10037282.html Post message: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe : [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe : [EMAIL PROTECTED] List owner : [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage : http://proletar.8m.com/ Yahoo!
