The best way to do this is to use a recording rule.
Something like this:

Without any more info, it looks like someone / something is abusing your
Prometheus server API endpoint. Or something has changed such that your API
endpoint is very slow.
I would look at the "prometheus_http_request_duration_seconds" histogram to
find out if there is a specific API endpoint that
Thanos uses the remote read API, those look like direct query_range
requests, aka graph queries.
