Abdul,
I put your suggestion to my gerber-speaking colleague and he says that it
would be easy to hook up the RS-274X in the manner that you prescribe. His
only negative comments were : 1) that the definition files might be
different eg one user's definition of complex-teardrop1 might
Tony,
Well (back in the old days) once film has been generated from gerber (or
hand tape) they could bomb-site the film for coordinates. However I don't
honestly know of any fab houses that still do this. I'm
sure there are, just have not delt with any in recent times.
But honestly the fab house
hello,
i guess our customer on this board rebuild job is happy with us
and has given us a bunch more boards to do. over half of them
are simple two-sided boards. with no existing gerbers, up til
now i've been recreating these in protel with a stripped board and
a set of calipers.

Hi Mike,
Actually we have a large number of old 'hand taped' artworks here and use an
outside service bureau to convert them into gerbers. There is a company here
in San Diego, CadArt Services, that has the facilities and the expertise to
do this sort of artwork restoration very well for about

Hi Michael,
some kind of semi-automatic procedure for rebuilding legacy
hardware would be a nice option. Here's what you need to do:
1. Take a picture of your board using a flatbed scanner.
2. Chance the color of the board plane to white and of the
traces to black; save as BMP file.
3. Use
I am trying to import Gerber files into Protel, from Camtastic. I
have no problems getting the files to generate, but there is a lot of
information missing. The text is not complete and there are missing tracks.
I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I have tried everything I could think
i have heard of this working, if i were doing it i think i would re-draw
the thing in protel on top of the imported gerber
don't forget you're going to need a good drill file too!
good luck and keep us posted

Ted,
The reason Protel will not import the gerber properly is because of the way
the DCodes are done in the CAMTastic version being used.
Protel needs to have the DCode listed each time, it does not assume the last
used DCode if it is missing. CamTastic only lists it one time until the

You could always photocopy the board onto overhead transparency film, then
stickytape it to your monitor and set Protel to the correct zoom level and run
the tracks by tracing over the film. Its a serious suggestion, I have done logos
like this and it works well.

Hello,
What does the AW: part mean in the topic of an e-mail? Though infrequently, I have
seen this used in the subject of some e-mails.
Cheers
