 I am happy to
post them but I suspect that some people may get uppity for some
reason. If a few people are interested in comparison between
 DXP and P99SE
I will pass comment, otherwise I will do it much more rarely.

I think it's interesting

Right now, DXP doesn't seem to offer me much more than what 99SE can do
anyway, so I guess it would be fun to see what I'm missing at least...

Maybe if you start a convention where you flag the header with {compare} or
{DXP/99SE} or something, those people who don't like it can delete the
messages unread.

[PEDA] Polygon ground question

2003-05-28 Thread Miao, Yi-Jun ( IAC-N)

Dear sir:
In
placing polygonground, there always exist some tiny polygon, these
tinytrace will interfer signal trace.
I
have 2 methods to deal with this:

1: dobule click the polygon plane, unlock primitive ,then modify the tiny
traces.
The
shortcoming is: If I need rebuild the polygon, I have to modify again.

2: In relative layer(eg TOP layer),route an trace( no net) to keep from the tiny
trace, let the tract' s properties is keepout, then rebuid the polygon, it
will no tiny trace.
The
shortcoming is: After fulfil these work, I have to delete these"keepout"
trace, but maybe I need rebild the polygon.
 So I
still havn't thought good method to do it. Can you give me any
guide?

Best regards,
Miao yijun

2003-05-28 Thread Robert M. Wolfe
Ian,
Let me get this straight.
So what you are saying here is that there really is no proper
update footprint?? (reason Protel does not understand the word
update) By that I mean if I have a library of footprints then
change say 10 of them. These 10 were used in a design.
I now would like to be able to update the footprints in the board with the
latest that are in the library with the use of and update
footprint command. In DXP there is still no way to do
that in one update step???

 [DXP comment]
As well as the existing Update Schematics function (in SchLib editor), DXP
Sch now allows you to pull changes from a Sch library - you get a dialog
allowing you to control which components are updated, and to control what
attributes are updated. It is more controlled than the P99SE push method
 of updating.

The P99SE method is still there - in DXP it will tell you the number of
changed components and the number of affected documents - not very
controlled but useful as a check.

This update from library exists in Sch - it is not implemented in PCB,
there is still no easy way to force PCB footprints to be updated from the
PCBLib, which is a shame - especially as it is now possible to controlled
much more precisely where a footprint should be sourced, so controlled
 updates are possible.

Hi,
That would be interesting, like me who have to convince my boss as to why we
should migrate to DXP.

Thanks Julian, you have made my view come to light.

Good idea! Even for the folks who _are_ interested (like me)

In placing polygon ground, there always exist some tiny polygon, these

When placing or editing the polygon plane, click on the Remove dead copper
box. This will clear all unconnected copper bits
