That check box option controls whether the corresponding Mechanical layer is
also displayed (or not) when Single Layer Display Mode is selected. (When
that mode is selected, the current layer is displayed, and whichever
Mechanical layers have been selected in this regard (but only if each of
these layers are currently visible in Standard Display mode); all other
layers are *not* displayed.)

I lean to the view that perhaps some code still needs polishing after the
provision of the additional Mechanical layers.
