No - Apparently we are not. I purchased 99SE on September 30th last year
(the day before October 1st!), and found out very soon afterwards that I was
NOT entitled to ATS. Altium were very firm on this, even after much
complaining by me. I should add, though, that the Altium dealer here in the

I don't think any of us can complain that Protel went the
extra mile and
offered SP5 and SP6 free.
Offered for free? How very nice. I feel really warm and fuzzy
IMO, offer for free, or any other tacitly
I wonder if the software can tell, during installation, which version you
actually had and refuse to install if it's not the upgrade jump you paid
for?
IMO, I think it's a shady business practice to charge someone more for an
upgrade just because they skipped a version. That's the same as

Isn't it the other way round ?
Having bought the last version you're regarded as 'good' customer

should give you equal trade up? Hey, you didn't drive the 1997 model for the
past 5 years, why should you 'pay' for not using it?

I agree with you.
The smaller the marketshare the customerfriendlier a
company has to act. AFAIK, Protel, ahem Altium could increase
their marketshare and therefore don't have to act that
customerfriendly anymore.

hmmm, at $2K/Yr., ATS fees would pay for this in about 7 years.

BTS Isn't that about $14,400 USD? If it's full versions, that's a big discount!
BTS Probably much cheaper than buying Protel 99SE (or DXP) and Specctra
BTS separately.

Just a thought, but the last time I priced a Cadence Allegro package, the
stated price of $26,000US was for a ONE(1) year license. The low-ball
price may be likewise for a one year license. I would get all the details
before I got too excited.

You know with all the bitching that goes on around here about Protel, you
guys seem to forget how inexpensive it really is for what you're getting.
With PowerPCB, you pay and pay and pay for every

Yeah it was PADS, then it was Innoveda, now it's Mentor. It's hard to keep
track, I know.
Yeah I like Protel a lot better. I used PowerPCB at one job a few years ago,
and it found it confining, confusing, un-natural, and unstable.
When I revisit an old board done in PowerPCB, I cannot remember
