Re: [PEDA] Pet Peeve (irritating lost feature)

2003-01-10 Thread Paul Holland
Hi,

In CAM Outputs go to 'ToolsPreferences'

The directory at the bottom which you point the CAM files to is in fact
where protel will create an extra copy of the gerber files.

If you set the Path to the design directory every time, Protel creates the
Gerber files, then tries to overwrite these gerber files with a copy, hence
the dialog. In JaMi's case, with the path set to x, the first time gerber
zzz is created, there is probably no 'Overwrite?' Dialog, but subsequent F9
presses will produce one.

Simply uncheck the 'Export copy to' box and you will find you only get one
copy of the gerber files, in the correct design directory. Well, I do anyway
;-)

Best Regards

Paul

I am not sure what I am overwriting, and I am just using X and ZZZ to
signify I have overwriten something a whole bunch of times.

Next time I go thru the F9 process I will pay more attention. :-)

Re: [PEDA] Pet Peeve (irritating lost feature)

2003-01-10 Thread Robert M. Wolfe
I did not follow this thread from beginning fully but,
In CAM Outputs go to 'ToolsPreferences'
In the CAM prefernces you can set it to overwrite
or create a time stamped new folder each time you output,
also you can put each type of output in separate folders, drill, gerber,
etc.

I found it easiest to just have it output time stamped copies
of CAM output to one separate CAM Data Output directory for
all designs.

Jeff,
are you using Windows Files system or the DDB database format for
your files? Is this even a P99SE question or possibly DXP?
I use the DDB database format and my Gerbers always export to the last set
(in preferences) directory location. If I never change it, it will always
generate the Gerber CAM directories within the same single directory
location. I am not sure what exactly you mean by a project directory, I
thought that was more of a DXP term.

Re: [PEDA] Pet Peeve (irritating lost feature)

2003-01-09 Thread Peter W. Richards
It would be nice if the CAM export directory could be made project-relative or
relative to the location of the DDB. It seems to be absolute.

Say I design and save a PCB. Now I want to work on rev 2 (but save the original rev1
for posterity). I copy the rev1 design database into a new directory, but the CAM
export directory points to the same old absolute location--overwriting my rev1 files
when I export from the rev2 DDB. Bad.

Jeff,

I think I understand what you are saying, and while I never realized it
before, I think that it has been happening to me also.

When I generate gerbers (do an F9) I always have to answer a do you want to
overwrite message of some kind, pretaining to some file(s) somewhere, which
I never could understand, and always ignore and simply answer Y to, since
I always do an export of all of the resultant newley generated files to a
seperate directory.

I always wondered what I was overwriting, but if I understand you correctly,
I am continually overwriting my own Project X, even though I am now up to
project ZZZ.

Never thought that one thru before, but I only hope I never need to access
project X files anymore (even If I could figure out which project that
really was).

I'll have to pay close attention the next time I generate gerbers or other
cam files.

I am saying that it does exactly what you have now stated, with one
minor exception. Somewhere you must have set Directory X the first time or
