Hello,
I need the advice of PEDA members. I have been using Protel for many years
and am happy with front to back development environment. I have always had
lots of pressure from existing and prospective customers to use the Orcad
schematic capture and Orcad layout. Usually these customers have
standardized on Orcad and are not willing to switch to Protel. I have
reached a point where I need to:
1. Purchase the Orcad tools: $1400 for capture and Orcad Layout ($7300)or
Layout Plus package ($10500).
2. Turn away customers that are dead set on using Orcad.
3. Develop a good strategy to convince customers they would get a better
product using Protel.
4. Develop a rock solid way of converting between Orcad and Protel. Not sure
how realistic (cost effective) this is.

I am not thrilled about using the Orcad Layout tool. From what I can see it
does not have many of the more advanced features that Protel provides. Their
Layout Plus package ($10500) seems to be on par with Protel. Of course, not
having used either of these tools I can't properly evaluate them. Would it
be better to use the Spectra router? Some feedback on this would be
appreciated.

How do Protel users deal with Orcad users? Is their a comparison chart of
Orcad vs. Protel? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
