Re: [PEDA] DXP Newsgroup

2002-08-12 Thread mariusrf

probably "they" don't want regular 99se users to see all dxp problems which
are going to surface . "they" might assume that most 99se (or older
versions) users are like you and me, busy working, and have no time to
subscribe to a gazillion different lists. Therefore all DXP problems would
become invisible to 99se suckers , sorry for the typo , I meant potential
dxp upgrade customers . I think for the time being I won't advise any of my
clients to buy Protel until this mess ( oops , sorry for the typo again, I
meant marketing strategy) gets sorted out. Not until dxp is reported stable
by a large number of users and the ATS policy guarantees the client receives
at least a bug free version (without having to pay for an undefined duration
the ATS fees) .

Why don't they watch where the DXP message traffic is (here)? Instead of
where they wish it was (there)?

Seriously, I don't have time to register for all the variant lists that some
may propose, i.e. the list of all Protel 99SE users who never owned v2.8,
are thinking about upgrading to DXP, but don't like ATS, have green skin and
pink eyes, ingrown left foot big toenails, and 6 fingers on each hand, etc.

Robert

After viewing the DXP forum I see you are, of course correct.

There seems to be much more response from Altium there.

I will move my comments to there instead.

Sorry for any offence, it was not intended.

I did not say it was. I was just stating my opinion that it would better
serve you to ask over there since I have seen a lot more responses from
Altium over there. It appears to me that the developers (as opposed to
support people) of DXP are watching the DXPTech Forum, when I see no
evidence that the developers are watching this forum. I find results come
quicker the fewer levels between you and the guy making the change.

No, but as stated, you will not get much Altium-input on this list. There
is, apparently, a company policy that very few employees post to this list
- or at least there used to be - even though there may be a number that
watch the list. It used to be that the only Altium input on this list was
via the ProtelCSC.

There has always been little support for such a move - even in the face of
slow action to produce an archive.

As far as I know this has not been designated a 'non-dxp' area :) :)

But seriously, I know the support people at Protel and my local VAR watch this forum
as well, and of course, they are more than capable of responding here, if they wished
too.

I don't really know the purpose of splitting topics across various newsgroups as IMHO
it only confuses issues. Again IMHO it would have been better to set up a BBS system
using vBulliten or phpBB (similar to forum at w#w.pcbstandards.com). I think the extra
effort might be worth it.

BTW, that's just a suggestion/opinion TechServ already do a good job managing &
providing this list server, I would not deliberately imply otherwise.
