In the advanced section of cam outputs, gerber setup there is a film size
box, this defaults to 20 x 16 and is relative this gives your overall space
available for plotting.
Do a board information report and change your film size to match if you want
to keep all the additional info in the gerbers.

i apologize for posting in such haste. i went back
and cut the dimensioning graphics and the information
box and it generated the gerbers with no problem.
there must have been something else there, cuz surely
those wouldn't have botched the gerber generation.
