[PEDA] Polygons keepouts (was Serious Bug: Polygons still connecting to pads...)

2002-02-12 Thread Dwight

I think the problem is that this is an ambiguous situation. Keepouts only
prevent track from crossing -- you can have track on either side of it. Even
if it's a closed figure, you can have track inside.
So if a polygon keepout area overlap, where does the polygon start
from? Which part of the polygon should not pour? (And remember that a
designer might look at any specific case and say it's obvious, but the
program would have to determine this for ANY abitrary keepout and polygon.)

I've had this problem with keepout tracks.

I place the track to control where the polygon will pour therefore the
polygon is there when I place the track hence the track picks
 up the net name.
I edit the porperties of the track and change from GND (usually) to
No_Net
and check keepout. The online drc then shows the error as it should.

 BUT

If I repour the polygon it ignores the different net keepout and acts as
if the keepout isn't even there.

 Similar but different problem.

 Thanks
 Wayne Trow

I see I opened my mouth just wide enough to get my foot stuck... Brad et al
are quite right, it is (or should be!) well defined and there's definitely a
bug there. I confirmed this on one installation (win98, 99SEsp6). One
additional note -- the bug occurs even when remove dead copper is not
checked.

The keepout, presumably, is a collection of tracks. The polygon pour will
keep clear of each one of them and thus of all of them. ...
 It is fully defined.
