This is not a bad idea, especially given the answer to the following question:

I thought I remembered that you could display the footprint field, but did 
not find a way to do so directly. However, under Tools/Preferences, there 
is an option to "Copy Footprint from [Part Field 1, Part Field 2, ..., Part 
field 8, ignore]." This is an OrCAD load option, however.
