Phil,
Memory corruption of icons is a rather old issue with Windows. I'd like to
be able to point a finger at something, but I've never actually pinned it down.
In the meantime, are you aware of TweakUI, an old PowerToy from
Microsoft? It will allow you to Rebuild Icons whenever this happens

I had seen this a few times before while running Win2k.
I was never able to reproduce it or track down the cause of it seemingly
very random and also seemingly harmless( I never noticed any problems caused
by it).

I don't know about NT or 2000 but it WIN98 you can rebuild icons by
simply going to desktop appearance and tweak or pretend to tweak the
icon size
my icons go bad all the time, don't know why
it's not particularly protel
