Darren,
Found the problem.  You can set the system font (or not) from two
places. I you click on the down arrow just left of the FILE button at
the top of the screen, then click on PREFERENCES, there is a button that
says, CHANGE SYSTEM FONT just like the one under DESIGN > OPTIONS. 
However, after changing style and font size, the only change that takes
effect is the font style, no size change.  I tried what you suggested
and it works as it should.  Now I'm wondering if maybe the font-change
dialogue box in the down-arrow menu does something else I should be
aware of.  Thanks at any rate.

Hi Gary,

Changing the Options, Document, Change system font
should change the fonts used for components and
there pins. Arial 9 is what I always use too.
