M-C, click in empty area of workspace, check the box Move Component to 
Cursor, pick a component, it will move to the cursor. If you don't want to 
move that component, hit escape. When you run Move Component again, the box 
will remain checked.

However, this does not appear to persist beyond the current session. 
However, it is very simple to check the box first time you use the command. 
Since this command is generally used this way only in initial placement 
(it's much faster than jumping to the component and then back to the part 
of the board you are placing), and later on one will usually be wanting to 
find a particular part without moving it, I don't think I'd want the 
setting to persist.
