Ivan, I tuned my XP system a little and the hard drive isn't banging for virtual ram as much. It kept running out of virtual memory with only Protel pcb 99SE running even though I have 512 meg of memory. I doubled the page size to well over a 1 gig and it quit paging completely. The frequency of hits for paging should not be dependant on the size of the virtual ram. But it did help. There was a M$ memory monitor icon in my taskbar, I killed it also. Protel seems to be running better on XP , I don't hear the harddrive banging away on every command. There is a slight delay keystroke to response but it is tolerable, some commands seem to respond faster than W98 did. Place Track command has the greatest delay. The online DRC seems much faster under XP. Maybe all in my head.
My exaggeration of 10K might be excessive, but you got the point it definitely M$ should not eat 100 meg of ram on my system. Same as the installation, should not occupy 1.5 gig of disk space and even more when you count the files scattered thru out my computer to support it.
