Romania: Evidence of differences in entrepreneurial activity among
Romania's 8 region is reported
Bucharest - 10 August 2005 - Romania's eight regions are showing
increasingly marked differences in terms of entrepreneurial activity,
according to a study conducted by the Romanian Centre for Economic
Modelling (CRME).
In Bucharest, there are 24.3 companies per 1,000 people, while in the
north-eastern region there are three times fewer firms, the study shows.
The pace of entrepreneurial development in both Bucharest and the
north-eastern region has remained stable since 1997. However, in the
West, North-West and Centre regions, the pace has increased and in the
three southern regions it has slown down since 1997, according to the
CRME.
Overall, there are 2.5 times less companies per 1,000 people in
Romania compared to the average in the European Union, the study shows.
Note that it is the regions closest to Hungary and the rest of the EU
that perform better in terms of entrepreneurial activity.
