Technology makes our lives easier, right? But could it be cutting
lives short too? We decided to put the biggest technology companies
to the test, and the results may surprise you.

That's because many of the world's leading manufacturers are
producing electronics with toxic chemicals like polyvinyl chloride
(PVC <http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/campaigns/toxics/go-pvc-free>)
plastic and brominated flame retardants (BFRs). In this test, high
levels of toxic chemicals in electronics products means more than a
failing grade for the company, it represents serious health and
environmental hazards to children in the developing world who take
these products apart for scraps.

And just think of the piles of outdated electronics piling up -
don't you wonder which companies have a good recycling program? You
may not like the answers we found.

So guess who ranked at the bottom of the barrel? Apple. Along with
Motorola, Acer, and Lenovo.

Tell these toxic tech companies to clean up their act.

You've been instrumental in teaching a lesson to leading technology
companies like HP and Dell, who have clearly paid attention. Now
it's time to tell Apple to innovate, and catch up with PC leaders
who've already started using alternatives and implementing recycling
programs.

And don't forget to see the full report card
<http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/news/toxic-technology-report-card>
and find out how your favorite gadgets ranked.

Sincerely,

Rick Hind
Toxics Campaign Director

p.s. Every quarter, we'll release a new report card on these
companies until they graduate from our school of environmentally-
friendly electronics.
