This could easily be implemented as a library on top of protocol buffers.
However, we have no plans to add such functionality to the official
protobuf implementation -- we prefer it be a separate project. This keeps
the protobuf implementation lean(er) so that people who don't need the
functionality don't get weighed down by it.
The best place to discuss ideas related to protobufs is on the discussion
group, not in issue reports.
