I think the docs are pretty unclear.  They say "Depending of whether
or not the optional parameter getHash evaluates to true, the result is
either an object of the form {name: "johnny", color: "blue"} or a
string of the form "name=johnny&color=blue", suitable for parameters
in an Ajax request."  So although the parameter is "getHash", it's not
a Hash object in the Prototype sense.  It's just an object, which
(because this is JavaScript) is a hash.  Looking at the code bears
this out.  FWIW, IMHO, it's a documentation issue.
