It fails silently. Btw, the scriptaculous front page is comically misrendered in Chrome as well, but this slider problem is a killer! If this can help, It works fine with scriptaculous v1.8.1 and Prototype 1.6.0 but does not work with the latest scriptaculous v1.8.1 that requires Prototype 1.6.0.2.
