We had two kinds of problems with using our USB wi-fi adapters for telemetry at our last launch: electrical issues with USB, and regulatory limits we didn't understand on our 802.11a channel selection. Andrew et al seem to have solved the electrical issues, and our antenna is tuned for a different channel than we intended, which turns out to sidestep the regulatory issues.
In case we want to try the higher channels again later, though, here's background on the issues with channels that require "Dynamic Frequency Selection": http://lwn.net/Articles/420623/ Linux support is apparently in progress; you can check the status here: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/developers/DFS Jamey
