Just to make sure we're discussing the right thing here: there are three
"leakage" specs to discuss:
- the leakage of the actual Li Po batteries, which is more correctly
called self-discharge rate. Note that we don't care much about this,
really, since they're all about the same. All the same, don't get
batteries that have TERRIBLE self discharge rates.
- the leakage current (really the quiescent current) of the circuitry on
the Li Po batteries when they're unplugged from the rest of the rocket.
We imagine that we'll end up putting some circuitry, like a fuse,
thermistor, and possibly even the charge counter directly on the battery
pack. The point here is that when you unplug the battery from the rest
of the system, the Iq should take months, if not years, to discharge the
battery.
- the leakage current (quiescent current, really) of the who rocket when
it's shut down and just sitting there "off". This can be a lot higher,
since this is a "ready to go" kind of state, and when we store the
rocket, we'll unplug the pack.
So to answer your question, yes technically the self-discharge rate
should be spec'd in the battery datasheet. The other two currents are
something that you'll specifically design into the rocket system.
