Not familiar enough with Adaptive Control to know much about that
particular technique, and it sounds like the prof has a special
variation on it.  There are lots of different techniques that could
apply to rockets, which is why I'd imagine they're popular subjects for
example problems in Adaptive Control.

Once it becomes time to get serious about rocket control, it might be
good to chat about controls with Prof. Tymerski in EE.  Since Tymerski
deals mostly with DC-DC converters and is chronically short on free
time, it might be even better to chat with some profs in Mechanical
Engineering; ME (and especially robotics) works with a lot of practical,
real-world control problems.
