Ireland is suing the EU at the European Court of Justice, there is an important, big lawsuit before the German constitutional court, and similar things are happening in other European countries AFAIK. Chances are that data retention is thrown out altogether, cut back in its scope or at least held up for a couple of years, which would be a success in itself since public opinion is changing and turning against ever more surveillance. Nevertheless, what you do for our LatAm friends is great. You are right we should see these things from a global perspective.
