I remember reading something about a new method for assigning sends to outputs
or busses and having the option of quickly naming them on the fly. Well, I put
that in the back of my mind and finally had a chance to try it. Well, it's a
fantastic feature in Pro Tools 9 that wasn't available

I don't think selections can be made while in that mode. It's technically
shuttle mode, not scrub mode. In HD, it's possible to press Shift while
shuttling and it'll make a selection.
A better option would be to shuttle to the spot you want to edit. fine tune
