You need to make sure that you have link timeline and edit selection checked in
the options menu. It is also helpful to have link track and edit selection
checked so that you can use the handy control p and control ; to select tracks
to edit.

O just figured out the shift key only selects while playing in scrub mode. One
problem down, one to go;-)

Are you issuing the arrow down and arrow up commands from the Edit window or at
least while the edit window is open somewhere in the background. This makes a
difference when entering start and end values. Perhaps it might affect
capturing values with arrow keys. Apart from that, make sure

the timeline insertion follows playback was indeed checked, but now unchecked
it doesn't make any difference. Does this function serve any other cause?
Thought I found the problem, cause sometime I seem to lose the selection of a
track in the track table. but after selecting it again

Well I think I know there is no selection made with the arrowkeys cause in the
counter display length field nothing changes. Only zeros. And when typing
manually start and end times or holding the shift key
