Are you issuing the arrow down and arrow up commands from the Edit window or at least while the edit window is open somewhere in the background. This makes a difference when entering start and end values. Perhaps it might affect capturing values with arrow keys. Apart from that, make sure

Great to know that, I found it always a pain to lose my selection after playing it. Well I think I know there is no selection made with the arrowkeys cause in the counter display length field nothing changes. Only zeros. And when typing manually start and end times or holding the shift key
