I have never used express, but as for Pt vs PT HD, why are you thinking you
would want a HD rig? Right now avid is making some changes that may at some
point in the near future preclude HD as a seperat system from PT standard/le.

start learning how to use the software before I purchase a ProTools HD system.
I looked at the comparisons between all three ProTools systems PT Express,
