There are 3 factors to consider when recording plug-in automation:
1. In the Automation window itself, make sure automation is not suspended and
select the "Enable Plug-in Automation" button.
2. In the Plug-in window, press the Plug-in Automation Enable button. A dialog
will open.
Command+numpad 4.

If memory serves correct I believe the second headphone jack can be made to
take the signal of one of th output pairs on the back. For example 7/8 or
9/10, if you have that option enable in Focusrite Control, You can just set the
headphone bus to output to that pair of outputs and then the
