Just a general clarification on the Red Book standard: a CD can have virtually any size gap or even no gap and it has no bearing on whether it's a Red Book disc. The Red Book standard (and there are a couple of other standards like Orange Book as well) requires that the CD PQ subcode

the thing is i can burn the CD fine if i take it to my windows machine and burn with nero. No gaps between any track, totally gapless. But i’d like to not have to do this. I’d like to be able to complete the whole project on the mac. How ever. lots of options here now, so i’m sure something

Hi Steve, You have to add a song to the library in order to add it to a playlist but two things to consider would be that, first, you don't have to have iTunes copy the song to your media folder and, second, you can have multiple libraries so you won't have to clutter your personal library.
