I see Lennart's point about that sync_volumes not conveying sufficient
information. He seemed okay with "deferred volumes", so either deferred or
delayed (hardware) volumes sounds oka

I can reproduce this locally with both aplay and paplay but only when the
alsa-sink is coming out of suspend. I recall seeing this in the past as well.
Not sure what might be causing
