My guess is that it is either using some kind of timer to handle audio

This will tell, do:
loginctl list-sessions
and from that output, pick yours to get more detail, using
loginctl show-session
for example, on my box:

Same issue here on PA 5.0 + Chromium + PepperFlash. What's weird is this used
