The issue seems to be resolved after fixing a corrupt /etc/group file,
which somehow ended up with multiple conflicting entries for several
groups, including gdm and daemon groups. After fixing the file, the
microphone has been working.
Thanks for looking at this.

I forgot to mention that the microphone (and camera) works great on my
older ThinkPad T520. This make me think the issue may be related to
the newer chipset on the Dell laptop. Perhaps comparing settings
between the two systems could be helpful?

I keep my microphones muted unless being used and I forgot to unmute
before running alsa-info.sh. Sorry. I unmuted and ran the command
again. Here is the new URL:

And here is a link to the screenshot of alsamixer, as well
Please run: alsamixer -c C920, then press F4 and post a screenshot.

Dear PulseAudio experts,
I just setup Arch Linux on a new Dell Precision 5520 laptop and, because
the built-in "nose-cam" is positioned under the display, I am using a new
Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920. The camera on the C920 works flawlessly.
However, the builtin microphone only worked occasionally
