Looking at the sourcecode, versions > 3 will allways encounter this error and Indeed the error can be cleared by declaring {{version: 3}} in the {{hiera.yaml}} file. I didn't check if this 'trick' still lets you work with hiera 5 functionality and wouldn't recommend it.*Workarounds*Setup the system to use {{ puppet lookup }} (?)*Desired fix*I'm not sure what is supposed to happen here. I understand that hiera is now part of puppet but where does this leave the standalone hiera command? Is it intended to work at all? Is it deprecated in favour of {{puppet lookup}}? Is it only intended to work with {{hiera.yaml}} files v3 and earlier? Would be great to get some clarity around these issues as the error message about v4 configuration files is confusing when file is already in v5 format.

Add method to the ruby class that returns In Puppet server, return task information about the executable files (size in bytes, URI: {"path": "/module/task.exe", "params": {"environment": "production"}}, SHA256) Out of scope:- Actual value for URI until we discuss how we're going still needs to be serving task contents. Can go ahead with specified pattern because it matches mount point pattern defined , and anything else custom we could force to match, but don't worry about it too much we can probably define whatever we want in that ticket .

Can go ahead with specified pattern because it matches mount point pattern, and anything else custom we could force to match, but don't worry about it too much.

Also the TLS RFC says this about the Server Certificate message: Each following certificate MUST directly certify the one preceding it. Because certificate validation requires that root keys be distributed independently, the self-signed certificate that specifies the root certificate authority MAY be omitted from the chain, under the assumption that the remote end must already possess it in order to validate it in any case. So probably best to always send the intermediate CA, though we could drop the root CA from the chain.

For clarity.
Core objectives:
There should be one preferred best-practice way to use and reference facts in the DSL
It should make sense to use the preferred way of using facts in the DSL everywhere a fact can be used in a manifest
The preferred way to use facts should work out of the box in Puppet, without the need to install additional modules or construct additional pylons
The preferred way to use facts should be in harmony with the use of facts elsewhere in the ecosystem (i.e. dot syntax)
Both fact() and .get() meet these criteria.
Possibly conflicting optional objectives:
Facts are special, and merit special treatment in the language to make using them stupidly simple and straightforward
Normal users should not treat facts as generic data, nor think of manipulating data when using them
If power users want to manipulate facts as data, they have the $facts hash for that
The existing $facts hash should be incorporated into the preferred solution
However dot-syntax support for facts is introduced should be generic and applicable to any hash
I'm sure we could enumerate more here but those two main objectives stand out as the biggest to me, and are the main attractors for fact() and .get() respectively. It's the ideological divide.
To align with each other we need to drive towards a decision on accepting or dismissing the assertion that facts are special. We may also need to align on what the minimally acceptable Puppet user should need to know in order to write Puppet code.
(Part of my objection to $facts.get('os.family') is that it feels like we've raised the bar for normal users -

Easier to help you interactively... The use of parameter declaration at the start of an EPP is sensitive to being the absolute first thing in the template. You cannot use a name such a $nginx::config::mime_types as the name of parameter, it cannot contain any colons. Is that what you tried? I understand that if you use absolute references that you then do not need to pass them as arguments to epp(), but then I do not understand what you were trying to achieve since the definition of parameters means you must pass those to epp(). Title: Message Title Henrik Lindberg commented on PUP-7822 Re: Make the fact() function from stdlib part of core puppet so that the dot syntax is available in the DSL by default I am -1 on the idea of having a fact() function in addition to $facts unless we deprecate the use of $facts (which has far reaching issues, including in hiera where interpolation references the $facts variable - it cannot call arbitrary functions). I am against this basically because of the tremendous churn it would be to change this. Had we designed this from the start, then I think a function (facts()) would have returned all facts as a hash instead of having it as a global variable (that we need to jump through hoops to prevent being shadowed). Agree with R.I here - mostly a distraction that is fine to have in stdlib (given it is actually name spaced as stdlib::fact, otherwise it is bad (please do not add global functions that are not in puppet core). I think we should add two functions; one being the discussed get, and another that just parses the dop syntax into an array of keys (that we can feed to dig). This way, if there is a need to the dot syntax can be comprehended by additional future functions. If we add only one function - it should be the do- syntax parsing function - the other functions can live in stdlib if so desired. The parsing function is the enabler for the others.
