Pypi changed behaviour today because of vulnerabilities in urrlib, which is used by pip.

I believe folks wanted to push to get those as default behavior as soon as possible. And from our testers reactions they wouldn't mind the defaults changing sooner rather than later. I'd love to update this PR to have those defaults, though I felt like I should get final sign off from UX, Product, and Dev either in this ticket or in the PR. I also figured it would be beneficial one more time to have the output and a functional environment on hand for folks to play with if desired. If a zero-length file exists in the standard locations for OS X LaunchAgent or LaunchDaemons exist, puppet will exit with an error:{code}# touch /Library/LaunchDaemons/foo# puppet resource serviceError: Could not run: undefined method `elements' for nil:NilClass{code}Not only does this cause {{puppet resource}} to fail, but {{puppet apply}} as well, causing failures.I discovered this by adding some logging to {{provider/service/launchd.plist}}, and saw the failure was when trying to read {{/Library/LaunchDaemons/.plist.puppettmp_9913}}, so it appears an interrupted puppet run left the {{.puppettmp_9913}} file, which then caused future runs to fail.Puppet 3 is not affected, so this is a regression of sorts. It's not just zero length files, this happens with any random file you drop into /Library/LaunchDaemons.
I believe that this just needs to rescue an additional exception here https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppet/blob/master/lib/puppet/util/plist.rb#L63.
Allister Banks that is Puppet skipping the use of the data which has already been successfully read from the plist. This happens before that; the plist is never successfully read as CFPropertyList errors.

In places with lookupvar I do a lookup with a variable that was constructed before in the following way:
$lookup = "_${var}"
$result = inline_template("<%= scope.lookupvar('::${lookup}') %>")
or within a function:
lookup = '_' + var
result = lookupvar(lookup)
So it shouldn't be possible here to pass numbers and both versions fail.
If you know some ruby code to inject into puppetserver over inline_template or functions I could do that. I have 2 servers to try, so if the first try should do something bad to it I have one left for other things to try.
Is it maybe possible that jruby has a bug somewhere with this?

Title: Message Title Henrik Lindberg commented on PUP-6409 Re: "integer too big to convert to `int' at" with lookupvar The reported line in scope (520) does this: throw(:undefined_variable, reason) and it has a catch of "uncaught throw" which then either accepts that and returns nil, or fails the lookup depending on settings. This construct allows code that catches :undefined_variable to handle that case on their own without having to rescue the error (which is much slower). If for some reason the "uncaught throw" is not working as it should - the logic would either fail with an error, or simply return nil. Could it be that there is a catch in puppet server? (it could also be that it does not work for MRI, but that it survives). The logic hinges on this definition: UNCAUGHT_THROW_EXCEPTION = defined?(UncaughtThrowError) ? UncaughtThrowError : ArgumentError modern MRI has UncaughtThrowError, older uses an ArgumentError. This means that on older MRI there is a very small chance that the rescue logic is invoked for some other error than uncaught throw. It is worth spending time trying to create a reproducer that shows the problem reliably. Add Comment
