Puppet Version: PE 2016.4.5 Puppet Server Version: 2016.4.5** OS Name/Version: RHEL 6.4 When using "puppet apply" to locally smoke-test updates to an existing and already "deployed" module, everything works properly except when the module happens to also contain an updated custom fact. The updated custom fact never gets loaded; instead, "puppet apply" always reads from the pluginsync'ed cache, regardless of "modulepath" setting. (In this particular case, the custom fact update added support for a second operating system via a small change to the confine directive.) The module autoload seems to be pretty deterministic and follows the modulepath (user-definable), so why wouldn’t fact loading do the same? Since “puppet apply” is totally disconnected and unaware of any master anyway, why does it bother loading custom facts from the cache since it really should not count on them being there in the first place? It should be able to get them all via dependencies in “modulepath”. Proposed workarounds were to delete the old fact from the cache under /opt/puppetlabs/puppet/cache (which works until pluginsync kicks in again), rename the module and fact under test (kludgey, prone to error, and does not test code as-is; and not conducive to integration testing). All of the code in puppet is written as though it assumes that it is handling only one cert, even though SSL correctly handles the bundled cert. At very least we should update Puppet's semantics to make it more clear that we are potentially handling a cert bundle. This entails not using the indirector to load the cert bundle from disk. The new implementation should have the right semantics; i.e. should not refer to it as if it will always be a single cert. Other serializers blow up when attempting to do this, and Puppet requires that functionality to correctly downgrade to PSON when there's binary data in catalogs/facts/reports. This requires a change to the packaging of puppetserver. Release Notes Summary:
The Augeas provider did not unescape quotes in quoted arguments for {{set}} and similar commands. Putting the command {{set thing "\"my stuff\""}} would lead to {{thing}} having the value {{\"my stuff\"}}, including the backslashes. Those backslashes are now properly removed so that the above command leads to {{thing}} having the value {{"my stuff"}}.

In this case, I would like to be able to declare that the $foo::params::bar variable is available for use but it is not a parameter.
Ideally, this would be documented with the @!accessor [r] method, but, when I attempted to use this, an error was thrown.
Presently, I'll continue using @param but it is inherently incorrect and a more correct alternative should be

Having Facts and Type aliases included in Strings is definitely on the near-term wishlist. Can you clarify what you mean by the ability to "handle any README.md" ? Are you referring to multiple READMEs in different directories? Other markdown files? The other things you mentioned sound good, too, for the most part. Unfortunately resources are a bit low right now so we'll get to what we can but it may not be all of it. We would need puppet-strings to start pulling in other markdown files or link out to github for things like CONTRIBUTING or MAINTAINERS, etc. Thoughts there? Title: Message Title Henrik Lindberg commented on PUP-8637 Re: freeze_main setting breaks when used with type aliases While I did not find the exact combination that leads to the merge problem I found that the cause was a much too restrictive condition for freeze main failure. It should always be ok to merge definitions into main since that is the purpose of merging. I put up a PR where the failure for freeze_main only occurs if there is an attempt to merge actual code into the main (i.e. top scope ""). This is now done in the PopsBridge::Program (since that is always what is being merged when a :hostclass resource is being merged). With the change in the PR I managed to run the ha_proxy sample to the point it fails because it does not support Darwin. It did not fail with the reported issue. Reid Vandewiele can you take the PR for a spin and see if it solves your problem? I will need to add a unit test for the functionality I added. If possible it would be great to get a deeper understanding of exactly why this happens with the stdlib/ha_proxy/type-alias combo - but I think the change itself is sound in principle as we should not disallow merge of only definitions. Comparing with --freeze_main and --no-freeze_main is a bit involved since the ha_proxy module does not run on Darwin. I made a simpler set up with just a test class using an autoloaded type alias, and that does not fail. There must be some other nesting going on in the ha_proxy/stdlib/loading-type-alias combination that triggers the freeze_main problem. Using the ha_proxy reproducer I could see that the merge that is going wrong is between "test/modules/stdlib/manifests/init.pp" and "test/manifests/site.pp". That looks legit as neither stdlib init.pp nor stages.pp have code outside of classes. For reference - when the merge takes place, there are two objects being merged that are instances of Puppet::Resource. They have a code instance variable that is a reference to a PopsBridge object that in turn has a program_model object. That object has a locator that shows the content of the file and the name of the file. To see what is being merged use for example instance.code.program_model.locator.file to view the filename in the debugger.
