Jira (PUP-7565) Deprecate schedule metaparameter
Title: Message Title Vadym Chepkov commented on PUP-7565 Re: Deprecate schedule metaparameter I hope you reconsider making this change. schedule is very convenient for many routine tasks in puppet, for example limiting tidy resource to once a day/week apply some resources only outside of maintenance windows, vcsrepo, because Bitbucket is not available, or package, because repository is not available I don't see how utilizing tags would help in these cases. We would end up with dozens of 'under maintenance' custom facts, flipping between 'latest' and 'present' or removing them from catalog all-together. Or we will be forced to stop running puppet agent as a daemon and running it from cron. Title: Message Title Moses Mendoza created an issue Puppet / PUP-7565 Deprecate schedule metaparameter Issue Type: Task Assignee: Unassigned Created: 2017/05/17 1:56 PM Fix Versions: PUP 5.0.0 Priority: Normal Reporter: Moses Mendoza From Josh Cooper: schedule metaparams are one way of running a partial catalog. But tags are a more general and flexible way of accomplishing the same. For example, a resource can only have a single schedule, but multiple tags. Also, if puppet doesn't run during the schedule window, then the resource may never be applied, e.g. puppet doesn't keep track that it missed the window and needs to apply the resource the next time it runs. That said tags have their own set of issues, but we have been making improvements in that area, e.g. https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/browse/PUP-6741, and I would rather have one way of supporting the partial catalog use-case.
