[PyMOL] Alter command and cartoon representation

I was playing around with the PyMol alter command to assign secondary structure to proteins, in combination with the rTools DSSP interface: dssp protein alter (helix),ss='H' rebuild protein,cartoon However, no matter what I do, the cartoon represenation doesn't change. When I try "util.
