Just remembered that that's the video that Dave Ungar (the main person behind the Self project) pointed me to when I met him for the first time, telling me that that's pretty much exactly what a VM does: Making it appear that something simple is happening while internally a lot of complex mechanisms are at work to uphold the illusion.
