These were originally deprecated in issue 5835.
Removed them from py3k in r78306.

I closed this even though the functions remain in 2.7. They would not be
removed until 2.8, and since 2.8 seems unlikely I'll close this. Even if there
is a 2.8, then these functions will still be present but do no harm.

These 3 functions were deprecated in 2.7 and 3.1, and need to be removed
in 2.8 and 3.2.
This is currently assigned to version 3.2 only because the bug tracker
can't assign issues to 2.8.
